This is Joshua Peterson with Peterson Electric. We are here today with a customer in Boulder, Colorado. This is a great prime example on how to help you guys. We have a 1950s home and this light fixture completely melted its wiring. The reason why that happened is because this is a halogen fixture. I know you have seen this before because this was popular in the 80s and 90s to have those floor standing lamps that are about 6 foot tall. I would never have a floor standing lamp or fixture like this in my house. These halogens get really hot. Each bulbs burns about a 150 watt and unfortunately the box can’t handle it. What happened is this baked the drywall and baked all the wiring. In the 1950s home, all of your connections for the rest of that room are always in the ceiling. It literally melted the wires, we had to cut wire, move insulation, make a junction box, push the wires back and create just a switch leg. Be careful about what fixtures you pick. I definitely suggest you pick independent fixtures that hang down like this gorgeous chandelier. It is a great example on how to keep the heat away from the ceiling. Thanks for joining us! We will see you next week!
