Joshua Peterson of Peterson Electric came to our house to do some work as a result of an electrical inspection that we had in the process of selling our home. What he discovered that the inspector had made a drastic error, asking us to change our FPE Panel, when indeed our panel was a Zinsco. Joshua’s work was complete, thorough and done in a professional manor and saved my wife and I thousand of dollars. The other thing, we found for them was the inspection report said that there was reverse polarity issue in the home, family room. We looked in the dining, living and family room and found nothing of the sort. They also said there was aluminum throughout the whole home and all the branch circuits. We found no branch circuits that were aluminum, except for the feeder, that was typically feeding the panel, which is normal. I would have to say that with the FPE Panel also being repaired, the Zinsco has not lost its U.L. listing. FPE was never allowed there U.L. listing from our knowledge. That stands for Federal Pacific Electric and how you know is they have red breakers. It is pretty common to see. These guys had Zinsco and we were just honest with them that. From our knowledge you don’t have to change this panel, unless I see a “hot spot” other than that it is just an older panel that is still working fine. Typically, service change of this nature would have been around $3,500.00 and on the aluminum copper splicing would have been about $2,000.00. It saved them quite of bit of money to have myself and another professional contractor, with Miracle Electric in Fort Collins. They said the same thing that they didn’t find an issue as well. Both of us our sending in our professional letterheads and license stating that this work does not need to be done. Bottom line, I think that saved them right around $6,000.00 for the work, everything that they were asking us to do. It ended up costing them $150.00 and a letter.
