Joshua with Peterson Electric. We are here today at Pat and Candace’s in Highlands Ranch, CO. Wanted to show you some work we did, but really wanted to show you a pointer to be careful when you are buying your own ceiling fan. I get a lot of phone calls about ceiling fans, basically what should I buy and what should I do. Typically, my suggestion to people is to buy yourself at least a 50 inch blade, make sure you get a lighting kit with it, if you can get a remote that has reverse that is great, pay attention to your rod size, if your ceiling is somewhat sloped or not. Look at this ceiling, it is about a 15 degrees pitch on this line. We hung the fan for them and it hung 4 foot down. I want to show you an issue I had, after hanging ceiling fans in 16 years, see where there is a canopy right there on the lip was rubbing on the drywall as the fan was turning. So what we needed up having to do is to put in a rubber grommet between the fan and the canopy. What is weird is this is a brand new build on a home, so literally this house is less than a year old and has a ceiling rated box, which you have to and on top of all that, what we noticed is that the rod shaft that comes down to the fan, which is basically a nipple. The hole needed to be drilled a little taller, so as we screwed in the rod, that the lighting store suggested that it was a good rod, put it into the fan, it was still loose. We had to tighten it up tighter to get it to stop wobbling. There was a bit of wobbling at the bottom of the fan, so therefore, it transferred the energy up the rod to the top of the canopy and what you could hear over and over was a clicking sound. We came back here 2 weeks later to fix the fan. One other thing, we noticed about this is at the top of the fan, there is a little donut that goes right where the screws go. We had recess that and leave it at the bottom. You can’t really tell without it, but the way the donut was designed while the rod was leaning on it, it was starting to click against it. It was making a really funky and annoying noise when on medium. It was not doing it on high or low.
