Hi, this Joshua Peterson with Peterson Electric. Today, we are doing some tidbits for you, Powered by PE. We want to tell you why you are consuming so much wattage. Keep in mind, some of the effects that really end up running up your electrical bill is your air conditioning system, maybe you have a swamp cooler, maybe you have window AC units, maybe you have a free stand alone air conditioner, maybe you have a whole house attic fan or just bunch of fans all over the home. Either way, when those fans are running or the AC is running, it is consuming wattage. The more energy you use, the faster this disc spins or your digital meter is actually logging. Some of things that affect that, escaping of heat and cold air. In the summer, you are trying to get cool and in the winter you are trying to heat. Your windows and doors can really affect how that inside temperature starts to escape and the other things are trying to look for is keep your kilowatt lower is lighting is a big affect. Your kids leaving lights on or maybe you have a bunch of old refrigerator or a deep freezer out in the garage and they aren’t energy star efficient and there motors are wearing out. Maybe you have a bunch of old baseboard heaters that are getting old and inefficient. As things age in the mechanical world, such as elements or motors or compressors, all these things start to use energy to get going, either heat or cool or hum or whatever they are doing to make your energy for that purpose of that appliance is going to consume more kilowatts. So the more energy start efficient you get, the more your home is sealed tight with caulking and insulation. These things will keep your energy bill lower. Also, the awareness of turning things off at night. Your lights, maybe you put a little timer for your outside lights quit at a certain time or you have them on a motion sensor. As well as inside, you can have motion sensors and occupancy sensors to turn things on and off. Make sure the kids turn off their video games and their TVs when they are done for the night. You can hit your surge protector and turn everything off. These little kilowatt suckers that are consuming all this energy. Just keeping them off, you are still using energy. Hope this helps you out. If you have any questions, you can call us. We do, do whole house energy tests, as far as going in there and using our meters to find out how much “juice” you are using. We also look at people’s energy bills to look and see if they are being billed on an average. You want to make sure your energy is being noted from each month, 30 days, they will actually restart your meter, but if you start to see they call it an average usage, you might want to look into that because sometimes I think you are going to be paying more than them actually knowing how much you are spent for the kilowatt, how many thousand of hours of that month only. Thanks for joining us. Hope this helps you out. Have a good week!
