Hello, want to do a quick video on permits, pretty important when you are doing kitchen remodels, in my opinion. It allows the city to know that you are upgrading your electrical. We are putting grounds in this kitchen now and we are having arc-fault breakers, dedicated GFCI protection and dedicated circuits. This kitchen was down where if you kill one circuit. The washing machine was tied to the disposal and the kitchen light was tied to that as well, so if they are wondering why my washing machine tripped and they lost the disposal and lights. It is pretty common in past for them to tie this together. Plus in the basement, someone had been tapping off things, so they just kept adding circuits in places. What we have to do is come in here and figure out where those wires go and cut them off and then add new circuits. When we come in here today, we are going to add a disposal circuit, dishwasher circuit, fridge circuit, a microwave circuit, two 20 amp kitchen counter outlets, the nook will be tied to one of those. We are going to put some kitchen lighting that we are roughing in, some new lights in the ceiling and we are adding in a new range with a ground, so we will have a four wires. We are going to have eleven circuits when we are done with this today. We will get a rough-in inspection next week. Wanted to talk to you about that permits are real important because then they know what you are doing, in case a neighbor sees you doing work or a dumpster out front. Loveland is pretty noise, so they drive around a lot. All the different utility guys will call in and see if there is a permit. You want to post this in your window, so they know that you are having a permit going on. That way you aren’t going to have any trouble. If you get caught without a permit with something this kind of nature, you can get in trouble. The most common thing that people have posed to me is “we are doing minor electrical and just resurfacing the kitchen.” Really if you get down to pulling cabinets, a lot of cities require you to pull the drywall to get your circuits and plumbing done correctly, make sure there is no leaks, no mold. It really does behooves you to go those extra steps. It does cost you a little bit. I guess on a permit dealing with something like this kitchen, it was $400.00 for the permit and walk through. They do the rough inspection and trim inspection. What I like about is I get to learn things from the inspectors. They also get to know us as a company. More than anything even though you have to pay fees. These fees are there to protect you, the homeowner, from contractors who don’t know what they are doing or they are cutting corners. It happens all the time. He comes in there and makes sure all my wiring is rough in appropriately, the right ampacity, the right circuits, the grounding, the arc-faults, GFCIs tested out in trim out. Today, we are just doing the demo, tracing circuits and then we are going to get done with all this, we will show you a picture and video once it is all cleaned up and done today. Thanks for joining us! We will see you next week!
